About the Owner and Our Methodology
About Arielle: I have always loved teaching and helping people understand difficult material. I began tutoring in college and continued tutoring throughout undergrad and graduate school, as well as for some years in between. In 2022, I graduated with my Doctorate in Physical Therapy from Washington University in St. Louis.
Methodology: Throughout my education, I studied concepts related to learning, teaching, skill acquisition, memory, and how the brain works. I incorporate concepts related to these into my tutoring. One such concept is “types of practice” (fixed practice, variable practice, massed practice and distributed practice). It is necessary to practice a skill in multiple ways to fully master it and to ensure the student is ready for a problem that is slightly different from what they’ve seen before. I incorporate these ideas into my tutoring, hiring, and tutor trainings.
Through over a decade of tutoring experience, I have seen how unique everyone is and how different approaches are necessary for different people. If a student does not understand something one way, it is the tutor’s job to find the best way for the student to learn! I love seeing a concept “click” and seeing the student’s confidence soar when they understand something for the first time. I formed A Wave Above when I no longer had room for all of the tutoring requests I was getting! My goal is to serve as many people as possible through personalized, quality tutoring. This is why I personally interview each potential tutor and ensure they are qualified to work with a wide range of learning styles and personalities.
